나의 친구인 Ronnie 는 항상 우회적으로 또는 농담반 진담반으로 대화를 한다. 이런 경우에는 신경을 써서 상황에 맞게 들어야 무슨 말을 하는지 알 수가 있다. 잠깐의 실수로 Privacy 에 관계되는 것을 물어 보았더니 갑자기 웃으면서 이렇게 대답한다.

“I could tell you, but then I’d have to kill you.”

직역하면 “대답은 해 줄수 있는데 그러면 너를 없애버려야 돼.“ 이다. “비밀이야 “또는 “묻지마” 를 우회적으로 재미있게 대답하는 방법이다. 그런데도 못 알아듣고 계속 물어보면 정말로 실수하는 것이다.

Maverick: It's classified. I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you.
